What Cookies are
Cookies are text strings of small dimensions that the websites send to the computers or other mobile devices to access the Internet. Cookies are memorized and retransmitted the next time the user visits that particular website. It is possible to memorize Cookies permanently, and they can have a variable duration (persistent cookies). They can also vanish when the browser is closed or have a limited duration (session cookies). In the same way, cookies can be installed by the website that is visited (first-party cookies) or by other websites (third-parties cookies), and they can be used for several purposes such as IT authentications, sessions monitoring, and memorizing of information regarding the activities of users that enter a specific website. Based on the purpose of use, it is possible to distinguish between the following categories: technical cookies, functionality cookies, analytics cookies.
Technical Cookies
This type of cookies is necessary for our website’s correct functionality, and they cannot be disabled. They are set according to the user’s actions during the web surfing, and they consist of a request according to the law, such as the correct visualization of the website and its contents. Technical cookies allow smooth and quick surfing (for example, by maintaining the user logged in the reserved areas during the whole visit to the website) and guarantee all the services requested by the users. It is possible to set the browser to block the technical cookies or to receive notification of their installation, but, in this case, certain parts of the website won’t work correctly. These cookies don’t normally file personal data and information.
Functionality Cookies
These cookies are uniquely aimed at better and faster website surfing. A better experience on the website is possible by memorizing most of the preferences selected by the user (for example, the language or multimedia contents). They can be installed without request, and for this reason, they are managed in the same way as the technical cookies. We clarify that if the duration of these cookies exceeds the surfing time, it could be requested to the user to activate it through a positive action (like a “flag”). This way, the selection will be memorized for a future website visit (for example, the functionality that allows the website to remember the log-in credentials).
Analytical Cookies
These cookies, which can be of first-party or third parties (which means that they can be installed directly by other companies or by us), are meant to gather information on how the user uses our website. In particular, this information is helpful to analyze the statistics on the accesses and the visits to our website. Furthermore, it allows us to improve the structure, the surfing logic, and the contents. Most of the time, these data are condensed in a way that doesn’t let us identify the user. For this reason, these cookies are compared to the technical ones. Sometimes, if associated with other information (for example, the reserved areas log-in credentials or other data gathered through other websites), these cookies might allow the identification. In such a case, there is an obligation from our side to request authorization from the user before installing them.
